John "Jac" Cannell Obituary

John A. "Jac" Cannell, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2024, at Crandall Medical Center in Sebring, Ohio. Born on October 30, 1938, in Youngstown, Ohio, Jac lived a full life dedicated to his family, his community, and the joy of the simple pleasures in life.

Jac's life was marked by his unwavering service to others. He was a US Navy Veteran and spent many years with both the Sebring and Alliance Fire Departments, where his leadership as Captain earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. His commitment to public safety and his bravery were hallmarks of his character, leaving a legacy of courage and dedication that will long be remembered.

Beyond his professional life, Jac was a proud member of the Sebring Masonic Lodge and the Youngstown Shrine Club. His involvement in these organizations reflected his deep commitment to brotherhood and charity, values he held dear throughout his life.

An avid golfer, Jac could often be found on the greens of the former Sebring Country Club, where he enjoyed the camaraderie of friends and the challenge of the game. His love for golf was not just a pastime; it was a way for him to connect with others and to relish the outdoors.

Jac leaves behind a family who will forever cherish his memory: his loving daughter, Tina (Bob Ruggiero) Cannell; his son, Trevor (Chris Weingart) Cannell; his grandchildren, Grace, John, and Bobby Ruggiero, and Katheryn Mager; his nieces and nephew, Chris (Tim Hetrick) Cannell, Mikki (David) Kanagy, and Jim (Lesley) Cannell Jr., who will remember their uncle with fondness and gratitude for the wisdom he shared. Jac's life was enriched by the love and support of his family, who stood by him through every chapter of his journey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Norma (Sharpnack) Cannell; his beloved wife, Daphne (Welch) Cannell, who was his partner in life and love; his brother, Jim Cannell; and his sister-in-law, Bobbi Cannell. The bond they shared in life continues as a guiding light for all who knew and loved Jac.

Jac's life story is one of devotion-to his family, his work, and the greater good of his community and country. His legacy is etched in the lives he touched, the fires he fought, the time he spent in the US Navy and the laughter he shared on the golf course. As we remember Jac, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life of purpose, and a life that exemplified the best of what it means to be a part of a community. Memorial contributions can be made in Jac's honor to the Shriners Hospitals for Children 2900 Rocky Point Drive,Tampa, FL 33607.
