Dorothy Miller Obituary

Dorothy L. Miller was born July 11,1929 in Weirton, West Virginia to Pauline and Holmes Hair. She was the 4th of 5 children. She graduated High School and went to work in the Weirton Steel offices. She met her future husband, Bob Miller, on a blind date. They were married October 10, 1953 and moved to Salem, Ohio. She worked at Hunt Valve as a secretary until the birth of their first child. Bob and Dorothy were married for 68 years and had 2 children, Debra (David Kulchar) and Scott (Diana Halteh). After Scott was in middle school, Dorothy went back to work in the school system as a cook in the cafeteria. Dorothy and Bob had 6 grandchildren: Jennifer Kulchar, Joshua Kulchar (Sarah), Katherine Franzen (Barney), Kyle Kulchar (Meghan), Emma Miller and Ava Miller. They were also blessed with 7 great grandchildren: Asa Kulchar, Levi Kulchar, Shiloh Kulchar, Kaia Franzen, Barney Franzen, Gray Porter and Nico Kulchar. Several years ago Dorothy and Bob moved to Indianapolis to an assisted living facility near their daughter, after 64 years in Salem. Dorothy passed away April 19, 2024 at the age of 94. She was a hard working and simple woman. She loved to cook and had the gift of hospitality. She was somewhat creative, whether it was building something out of wood or creating beautiful pine cone wreaths. She wasn’t afraid to tackle any project and she and Bob painted their own home until they were in their 80’s. Dorothy loved doing the Jumble puzzle and she and Bob were big football fans. They were long time members of the First United Methodist Church of Salem. They were very involved in their Share group and always helped out with service projects. There will be calling hours at the church at 10:00 April 26, 2024 and a funeral service at 11:00. Internment in Grandview Cemetery will immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made in her name to First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 463, Salem, OH 44460.
